THE STORY OF KIPPER

Kipper was a feral kitten who was trapped with her siblings and brought to a foster home for socialization prior to adoption.  Actually, when I called the shelter about her, they told me that she was hard to trap and was trapped later than her siblings.  For this reason, she wasn’t as socialized and they thought she would do better in a home with no small children or other pets.  When I first brought her home, she wouldn’t come out of the carrier, and when she finally did, she hid under the couch for about 12 hours.  Shortly after I enticed her out, she was on my lap purring, so all was well. She was a skittish kitten and remains a skittish adult.

Kipper came to me with a small gray kitten (The Muffin) who was as friendly as could be.  She came right out of the carrier and started climbing on me and chowing down on food.  Kipper had bonded with her, so I decided two is better than one anyway!  Kipper and Muffin are like siblings.  They groom each other, they play, they snuggle together… it’s cute!

Kipper also gets along with Jackson, who I brought inside at a bit over 3 months old. While I had him quarantined, Kipper hissed at the door, and when I let him out, she hissed at him for weeks. After a few months though, Kipper warmed up to Jackson and now he is on the GOOD list with The Muffin.

Which now brings us to Banksy.  Bansky remained an outdoor cat until he was a year old and started getting bullied by a neighborhood monster cat. I brought him in and kept him quarantined for two weeks, during which time Kipper hissed at the door.  I THOUGHT she would be OK with Bansky since she has smelled his scent on me for an entire year!  She hasn’t been horrible to Banksy, but she definitely is not a fan either.

Bansky LOVES to play.  He and Jackson both run through the house like wild horses! This will startle Kipper, who is OK if it’s Jackson, but gets all bent out of shape if it’s Banksy.  If he so much as looks at her from across the room, she will growl.  I have watched and watched and I don’t ever see Bansky instigating anything, so I assume it is just Kipper being Kipper.

Kipper also is a jumpy/flinchy cat when I pet her.  If she isn’t watching my hand and I pet her, she flinches.  If there is a loud noise, she hides.  When someone comes over, they all hide and slowly come out… except for Kipper.  She actually LOOKS worried most of the time.  She is just a high-strung cat.  Smart as a whip though!  She learned her name on the third day I had her!

So, recently the Kipper -vs- Banksy spat has stepped up a notch.  She growls and hisses at him more now, probably because he is settling in and isn’t as timid.  He actually gives her a wide berth when he walks past her, so she scares him too. She is bigger than he is by over 2 pounds!

I decided to try using CDB oil with her, and I am on day three of the trial.  I started her out with one drop of the oil, mixed in the only treat she will eat – Churu Inuba Chicken Lickable Treats (LINK).

One drop didn’t seem to do much, but didn’t have any negative effects, so on day two I gave her two drops. She seemed to sleep better after two drops.  Usually, if I so much as breathe on her when she is napping, she pops up. After the two drops, she wasn’t as jumpy if I moved while she was napping on me. On day three (yesterday) I gave her three drops.  She napped really well.  She is definitely calmer.  She didn’t hiss or growl at Bansky all afternoon, so I think it will work for her anxiety… hopefully!  I did hear her growl this morning, but the effects aren’t long-lasting, so I expected some change after a while. She breathes more slowly when she naps too. I think she is usually really wound up, and maybe the CDB will calm her down.

This morning I gave her 3 drops again, and I will let you know how things are going.  Right now, I’d say that it seems to be working!
